Rijeka, Croatia. Sculpture, Murano glass.
This year has been demanding, tense, media-poisoned, static in life, but artistically rich.
Matea Zeman
Working in glass set me free and I feel it more than usual. The masks, apart from my mother’s illness which she fortunately successfully overcame, are what affected me the most.
Mask- a visual barrier, a tool for movement and existence in the system, is what gives me chills.
For that reason, I retired to my art workshop. Glass is a dangerous medium and I constantly use a mask when working. This is where I find the mask useful, so going to an art workshop was a sanctuary for me.
What is the worst for me in my artistic creation is the fact that I have to graduate, and the academy I study at was often closed both last year and this year due to the pandemic situation in the country, resulting in renunciation, non-fulfillment of its(my) absolute capacities.

‘Space artifacts 2/2’, Matea Zeman, murano glass, 2021.
‘Space Artifact’ as material evidence of distance and alienation on earth. Murano glass is ‘trapped’ in the time and space of sculpture, just as we are trapped in the time and space of a pandemic.
