Terra Neidorf (UKR)

Painting.

I realized the importance of my healthy body and how much my work depends on my well-being.

Terra Neidorf

Many of my fellow artists began to create on the theme of the pandemic, but my attitude changed the focus from the public to my personal. Of course, I completely changed the concept of my creativity and began to explore myself through creativity.

The threat of a virus infection made me think seriously about my body and its health. I realized the importance of my healthy body and how much my work depends on my well-being. Am I infected? The question that I have been asking myself throughout the year. The fear of contracting a new, incomprehensible virus was and is now. Fear of getting sick, fear of losing the opportunity to create, fear of dying without doing what I can … The quarantine measures influenced my work as well as possible. Days, weeks, months of tireless work in the workshop brought me closer to my style and the discovery of my identity.

After all, when the viewer finds his problem in the production of art, he understands that he is not alone. Art can bring people together at this difficult and unstable time.

“Prickly insides”, Terra Neidorf, mixed-media (acrylic, textured paste, hobnails, burlap on stretcher), 2021

The artwork is a self-portrait. The image appeared in my head in an instant. The open inside from which hobnails stick out. Spiky hobnails are the psyche’s response to all surrounding dangers. It is a reaction to fears, criticism, life struggles. A lot can be related to this artwork, but if you answer briefly, then this is a reaction to life. I am learning to adapt to living conditions, to new viruses, to competition, to tests. Like a cactus in the desert overgrown with thorns, I have overgrown with internal thorns. I myself feel these thorns.

“Wounds”, Terra Neidorf, mixed-media (acrylic, textured paste, bandages, burlap on stretcher), 2021

The presented wounds on the body are interpreted as mental. The artwork is a self-portrait. Mental problems in the form of neuroses, breakdowns, hysterics, depression leave their ulcerative bleeding trail. Hello, my wounds, you are now with me forever.

“Artery”, Terra Neidorf, mixed-media (acrylic, textured paste, medical dropper, burlap on stretcher), 2021

What’s running in my veins? Is my blood infected with a virus or am I only sick with art? Perhaps there is paint in my veins. That red paint with which I paint. Or there is my blood in my paint … Red in front of my eyes, in my thoughts and my ideas. Red in my veins. Red in my artworks. The color of energy and life, the color of blood, the color of passion, the color of love, the color of my creativity. So what’s running in my veins?
