In the summer of 2020 covid definitely affected my working experience in a negative way, I had no motivation and haven’t done as many works as I should have.

It was a difficult phase as I was planning to enlist to art academy and needed to have works to show. Right now it’s whatever already. I can’t let covid affect me, my lifestyle, and especially my art making. Who knows how long this will last? I can’t let it stop me from making art. Today I wouldn’t say it influences or has any meaning to my art. Maybe some late 2020 works, when I really was intentionally going for pandemic themes. I took photos with my phone of face masks lying on the floor outside in the city/nature. This collection is on my tumblr.

I smoked cigarettes on my window in room during the summer I saved and collected every cig after finishing smoking, day after day. After a while there were around 50 butts at my window. It was disgusting. I decided to use them with something we are now all familiar with – face masks – and somehow connect the two. I could be cringe and we could say this is a metaphor for “not being able to breathe”, or “unhealthy lifestyle” or whatever, but really I just visually liked the concept of cigarette butts glued onto the surface of face mask. It’s as if we connected two contradictions. But are they truly contradictory? Both the mask and cigarettes makes it “hard to breathe”. (therefore it is not) like that kate bush song ‘Breathing’ states — “outside gets inside… I’ve been out before, but this time it’s much safer in”
