The pandemic will surely pass, it’s a matter of time, and you can’t get away from dialogue with yourself.

Dmytro Tarasenko

Last year’s quarantine began with the fact that everything stopped – business, people, time. “Chaos and panic” reigned all around in the sense that this virus seemed so terrible and terrible to us at that time.

  • Yes, it is really scary, especially when not experienced. People are still studying it, but during this time, how many troubles it brought. Over time, people have already adapted to life next to him. In terms of chaos, it was more likely to affect artists who are not yet making good enough money with their art to confidently stay afloat. Specifically for me, some aspects of my life have come to a standstill, as if they are swallowed in place, since my work and field of activity is connected with people and working with them. As a matter of urgency, I had to look for a job that was relevant at that time, and then pharmacies, grocery stores and delivery services were working properly. I had to get a job in sales (where I still work, but I plan to leave).

Talking to yourself is just as important as working on a painting. There is no result without dialogue.

  • I don’t know why, but before this pandemic there was such a thought to work in a similar field, perhaps because of a change in the field of activity. Therefore, you should be very careful with your desires)) But, at the same time, I had time for an open dialogue with myself, because before that it was postponed all the time for some reason, hiding behind some ridiculous excuses. And when there is time and conditions for this, then there is no getting around here.
  • During this period, at first, I did not really visit the workshop, although there was an opportunity. I didn’t want anything other than talking with myself, that was quite enough.
  • I began to study and analyze myself in a new way, what to like, what not very much, what I would like and how to achieve it. Thus appeared a series of works “Sasha” appeared. In the process of dialogue and work, new ideas and reflections on the topic appear. While working on one series, the thought was born about creating another one. It so happened that before the quarantine I worked on a search series of works “Jazz” for the wall graffiti of one of the jazz bars in Kiev.
  • During the quarantine period, the dialogue with the customer stopped, but I was so carried away by the technique of the stencil itself that I began to develop it further and apply it to my ideas, which in the end turned out to be very consonant in terms of “theme-execution”, because the same series It’s hard for me to imagine “Sasha” in other media. Everything has its time. A little later, a series of works “Children’s Drawing Competition” appeared, which for me also only seems to be in this performance.

While I was working and developing this topic, autumn came. And in the fall I picked up the COVID. And two weeks of complete isolation. You don’t see people, you don’t leave your apartment, and, in addition, you don’t feel any taste or smell. Complete isolation. Like immersion in water, where you remain only with yourself. If before that he began to enter into a dialogue with himself, then the “crown” became precisely the defining kick in the ass in terms of where to move in general and to what you are doing all this in general.

After graduating from the academy, 3-4 years, I did not quite understand what it was all about. A certain post-academic syndrome during which you try to find yourself. Where is the horizon to which you strive? There was no time or moment for a frank dialogue with the inner self. It was just the pandemic and the “crown” that helped me figure this out, admit my desires to myself. At the moment, I see a trajectory for myself and try to follow my path. Weed out the unnecessary and strive for the truth. Get away from uninteresting work and activities that do not lead to any results.

Appreciate time, which is the most invaluable resource for you and which only you have control over. And don’t let anyone take it away from you.

The year is definitely non-trivial, not the same as usual in the usual sense of the word. New conditions, new tasks, new solutions. In terms of creativity, the year is also completely different, because during this year I have never used oil or acrylic, my usual media. I went into the stencil world, which makes you think in a completely different way in terms of the image, which generally changes your attitude to art. The language of expression that enriches you, complements your palette of tools. Media that helps you go beyond the canvas. Media through which you think not in format but in space.

In this whole story, there are many minuses (meaning mortality and the forced people to do any work for the sake of survival), but also their pluses (for me personally). The pandemic will surely pass, it’s a matter of time, and you can’t get away from dialogue with yourself. Otherwise, you will have to do not your own business and live not your own life.

“The house that Jack built”, 2020, c.enamel, 110×100

Jack’s house is his inner world, personal experience, accumulations throughout his life, which served as material for the construction of strong walls of the temple of consciousness. The interior layout of the house, the location of all the rooms and secret corners are known only to Jack. The map is in his head. Therefore, any casual guest can easily get lost in it and, as a result, get not the best impression or a clear understanding of what is happening. But if you take a little time, study this house, wander around it with a map, I am sure that you can discover a completely new brave world.
