The pandemic period brought a new perspective on the world to my work. For me it was a distance that made me see and reflect on things that were part of my daily life, but that were so close that I couldn’t see them. Humanity’s relationship with technology was one of the main topics I reflected on during this period. Also the relationship with spaces, especially urban spaces, which was very limited in this pandemic period. The pandemic also brought long periods of loneliness, which means, for me, more intense existential reflections, which I reflected in my work.

The “Random Walk” project is related to the mechanism created for the work “fortune cookie”. A random walk is realized using the commands of a machine. It brings reflections on our relationship with technology and with the city, through human interaction with the machine. The System is developed with Max Cycling 74 ’.
Random messages are sent and when recognizing a face, the video stops.
Three parts of the city of Vitória, in the state of Espírito Santo, Brazil, are mapped. From these maps, an interaction is made with the machine, where it sends random commands and a path is generated. The system sends the commands: RIGHT, LEFT, GO FORWARD and STOP. The commands are followed on a map started at a random point. Whenever the computer signals STOP an X is marked on the map, which means a photographic record.
In sequence, the route generated by computer commands is carried out. This movement generates thoughts about urban landscapes, the relationship between human beings and the city and socioeconomic issues.
This work was also created in the pandemic period of COVID-19, where due to quarantine and after long periods at home I realized that my relationship and perception of urban space had changed. This work can be done in any geographic space.

I created the piece fortune cookie in the midst of the pandemic of COVID-19. In this context where humanity’s dependence on technology had intensified, I created this work to reflect on this relationship.
The title of the work “Fortune Cookie” derives from the interaction of the audience with the work being of a random nature, when the program recognizes a face, a random phrase appears and that is your “luck”. This work is developed with Max Cycling 74 ’. Random messages are sent and when recognizing a face, the video stops.
The phrases contained in the video bring an existential reflection and the purpose of the work is that the messages sent from the machine to the human receiver think about our relationship with technology.
