The lockdown made a gap in my usual work process…
Laura Sajko
On a friday afternoon in mid March last year we got a notice from the Academy I study on that, due to Corona virus, it closes for a period of two weeks. It didn’t seem a long time so I went back to my hometown for a little vacation.
The two weeks turned into a 2 months-long lockdown.
I tried to look on the bright side: I finally had the time to dedicate myself to Adobe tutorials. Soon enough, since we couldn’t move outside the house and the computer/tv screens were the only thing my eyes saw for days and days, I felt the urge to express the extra energy I had. The only painting material I had at home were some old crayons and tempera from my primary school days. I had no canvas. So I took some old bed sheets, sharpened the crayons and started expressing my stream of thoughts.
The lockdown made a gap in my usual work process since I didn’t have any professional equipment. Also, I wasn’t limited to work during the Academy hours, but could work during the night which suits me better. All that resulted in artworks in which, for the first time ever, I could see myself in. That work wasn’t mentored nor evaluated as everything before which I found very liberating.

This work was made on low quality paper I had at home with homemade ink. It is a part of the series where I was repeating letters of the alphabet with my not dominant hand.
