My work is a reflection of being in a pandemic in the digital age…

Shona Neary

The pandemic has been physically, mentally, and creatively draining, but at the same time the complete opposite. It forces us to confront the thing we’ve been avoiding- ourself. My work is a reflection of being in a pandemic in the digital age, what it means to feel connected but disconnected, what it means to face ourself.

CONTROL

This piece speaks to the similarities of a mental breakdown to an having an error in a computing system. The more we think about it, the more we realize that computers are reflections of the human mind.

ISOLATION

This piece is a digital render of the manifestation of the mental space of isolation. Somehow calm, somehow lonely, somehow together, somehow scary. Connected but disconnected.

DEMONS

This piece is also a digital render of the mental space of embracing your demons, what that space physically feels like when you are alone with your thoughts. The space is also based on a recording studio, HÖR, of Berlin, that to me, represents a place where you are free, but trapped at the same time.
