SUMMARY:
The genesis of archetypal symbols and their modifications in the work of Ukrainian artists is investigated, and determined the difference between individual and universal archetypal images. The content of archetypal symbols in painting is analyzed based on an interdisciplinary approach. It was revealed that the origins of modern Ukrainian art are connected with religion, mythology, rituals, customs and beliefs that form the national characteristics of archetypal symbolic structures. The features of modifications of the universal symbols, such as «water», «earth», «light» and «word» are characterized by the work of Ukrainian artists P. Bevza, O. Zhyvotkov, G. Gidora and P. Antyp.
Keywords: archetype, symbol, modification, genesis, archetypal complexes, archetypal symbolic structures, archaic symbols, Ukrainian artists.
